Horror covers roleplay built to unsettle — dread, threat, and the darker end of what MYRPW’s writers explore. It’s one of the tags most likely to be paired with a mature content flag, and that’s by design: horror works better when everyone involved agreed to be there.
What tends to fall under this tag
- Psychological horror, built on tension and uncertainty rather than gore
- Monster or threat-focused stories, from folklore to original creations
- Cosmic or existential horror, where the fear comes from scale rather than violence
Writing a horror Character on MYRPW
Flag Characters, Worlds, Tales, and Rooms as mature when the content warrants it — it’s how other writers know what they’re stepping into before a scene starts, and it’s the single most useful thing you can do for a good-faith horror partnership.
Finding your setting
Look for Worlds carrying horror lore in Communities, and check a Character’s mature flag and content warnings before starting a scene. Our Community Guidelines cover what’s expected around mature content more broadly.
