Secret Chat, Explained

The MYRPW Team

Secret Chat is an opt-in mode for direct messages on MYRPW. It’s worth being precise about what it does, because “secret” and “encrypted” get used loosely elsewhere and we’d rather you know exactly what you’re getting.

What Secret Chat actually does

What it isn’t

Secret Chat is not end-to-end encrypted. That’s a specific technical claim — it means only the sender and recipient can ever read a message, with the service provider unable to access it under any circumstance — and we’re not going to describe a feature that way unless every client we ship actually works that way. Right now, that’s not the case across MYRPW’s apps, so we describe Secret Chat plainly: encrypted at rest, automatically expiring, not forwardable.

Why this matters

An ephemeral, at-rest-encrypted message is still a meaningfully different privacy posture from a normal message that stays in your history indefinitely — it’s a real feature. It’s just not the same guarantee as end-to-end encryption, and we’d rather you turn it on with accurate expectations than assume a stronger guarantee that isn’t there yet.

What this doesn’t change

Regardless of Secret Chat, our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines still apply: reported content may be reviewed for safety and moderation purposes, and normal account security practices (secure your login, review active sessions) matter more than any single messaging feature.
