Style and experience are where it actually breaks down
Two people can both love dark fantasy and still be a bad match if one writes short, fast exchanges and the other writes long, detailed paragraphs. Read them before you message someone, and be honest about your own.
Availability is a real signal, not a formality
A Character’s status — Open, Busy, or Away — is worth checking before you invest time writing an introduction message. It’s a small thing, but starting with someone who’s actually available saves both of you the awkwardness of a message that sits unanswered for a week.
